Solento Organic Añejo is an award-winning sipping tequila aged 18 months in American oak, made from 100% USDA certified organic blue agave and bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV) in a 375ml half bottle.
Solento was founded by filmmaker Taylor Steele alongside innovators from the surf community; the name comes from sol lento, Spanish for slow sun, celebrating a mindful lifestyle and the slow process of traditional tequila making. The tequila is produced in small batches from a single estate with no additives, at NOM 1480.
Eighteen months in American oak bring smooth notes of buttery maple, toasted hazelnut and a subtle hint of oak over cooked agave. The body is velvety, with warm maple syrup, and the finish brings ruby grapefruit and lingering butterscotch.
The ribbed, light-catching half bottle makes an elegant gift.
Añejo tequila is aged between one and three years in oak barrels of no more than 600 litres, long enough to add colour, sweetness and spice while keeping the character of the agave, which makes it a natural sipping tequila.
Tequila can only be made from blue Weber agave in five designated Mexican states, chiefly Jalisco, and the finest bottlings are made from 100% agave. Sipping tequila is best enjoyed from a narrow-rimmed glass that concentrates the aromas, at room temperature and without salt or lime, so the character of the agave and the barrel can come through.
