Southern Star Double Rye is a blend of two straight rye whiskeys finished in premium bourbon barrels, made by Southern Distilling Company in Statesville, North Carolina, and bottled at 88 proof (44% ABV).
Southern Distilling Company was founded in 2013 in Statesville by Pete and Vienna Barger to help reignite North Carolina's long and sometimes overlooked whiskey tradition. Today it is one of the largest distilleries in the Southeast, making Southern Star bourbon and rye with every barrel hand-crafted and locally made.
Double Rye was first released in April 2020. Two remarkable straight rye whiskeys are combined in a perfect ratio after countless hours and failed trials, then finished in premium bourbon barrels for one balanced bottle. It was crafted with bourbon lovers in mind: a very approachable rye.
Honey gold in the glass, it opens with a bouquet of fresh dill, coriander, green peppercorn and deep caramel. The palate is full-bodied, with cinnamon and orchard fruits, herbaceous and citrusy, before a warming sizzle that melts into a smooth finish. It has won Platinum at the 2021 ASCOT Awards, Gold at the 2024 ASCOT Awards and Double Gold at the 2024 SIP Awards.
Southern Star Double Rye proudly supports Purple Heart Homes, which provides peace of mind and a higher quality of life to those who have served. It is the perfect bottle to share: grilling out, watching the game, swapping stories with ice from the cooler.
