Special Operations Salute D-Day 80th Anniversary Land is a limited-edition straight bourbon whiskey from Heritage Distilling, matured five years or more and bottled at 101 proof (50.5% ABV).
Released in 2024 to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day, the allied invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944, it is one of three limited bottlings in Heritage Distilling's Special Operations Salute series, labelled Air, Land and Sea. A portion of the proceeds from each sale of Special Operations Salute whiskey is donated to carefully vetted nonprofits that support military members, first responders and their families.
In the glass it is a golden amber straight bourbon with the depth that five or more years in new charred oak brings.
A meaningful tribute bottle, it makes a fine gift for veterans, service members and collectors of military history.
Sip it neat or over a large ice cube.
Bourbon must be made in the United States from a mash of at least 51% corn and aged in new charred oak containers, and straight bourbon must be aged at least two years. Those rules give bourbon its characteristic sweetness, with caramel and vanilla drawn from the charred barrels.
Straight bourbon must be made in the United States from a mash of at least 51% corn, distilled to no more than 160 proof, aged in new charred oak containers for at least two years and bottled with nothing added but water.
At 101 proof it sits just above the classic bottled-in-bond strength of 100 proof, giving a fuller, richer palate than a standard 80 proof bourbon while staying approachable.
Every bottle in the series carries commemorative label art, and buyers of all three editions were offered a frameable print, To The Guns, by artist Michael Solovey.
