St. George Dry Rye Reposado is a barrel-rested gin from St. George Spirits in Alameda, California: the distillery's pot-distilled, 100% rye Dry Rye Gin, rested in French and American oak wine casks and bottled at 99 proof (49.5% ABV).
It starts with St. George Dry Rye Gin, built on a 100% rye base and only six botanicals: Malabar black pepper, caraway, coriander seed, grapefruit, juniper and lime. The gin then rests for about 18 months in casks that held Grenache rosé, Syrah and Tannat from California's Blacksmith Cellars, which gives it a copper-pink hue and rich dark fruit.
Malt, juniper, dark fruit and spice meet oak, with stone fruit and citrus appearing as it opens. It is a genre-defying spirit that will delight fans of genever, rye whiskey and anyone who loves to blur boundaries.
A uniquely Californian take on barrel-aged gin.
Rye brings a peppery, malty depth to the gin base.
Wine casks add berry and stone fruit notes.
Its color comes entirely from the barrels.
It pairs with charcuterie, aged cheeses and dark chocolate.
Serve it in a rocks glass with one large cube.
It is a fun bottle to share with whiskey drinkers.
A dash of orange bitters complements the dark fruit.
Try it in a Bijou or a Hanky Panky.
It is a great gift for adventurous drinkers.
