Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Karia Chardonnay 2021 is a Napa Valley Chardonnay at 14.5% ABV.
Karia is the Greek word for graceful, the character the winery seeks in this wine.
The 2021 blends cool-climate southern Napa vineyards: Atlas Peak (36%), Carneros (28%), Coombsville (17%) and Oak Knoll (10%).
It spent nine months on lees with about a third new French oak, and includes a touch of Muscat Canelli.
Baked lemon, lemongrass, nutmeg and wet stone come together with a silky, medium-bodied texture.
Good wine rewards a little care in serving. Whites and rosés show best chilled to around 45 to 50°F, while reds are at their most expressive slightly below room temperature, around 60 to 65°F. Opening the bottle and letting it breathe for a few minutes, or pouring it into a decanter, helps the aromas open up.
