Star & Key Passion Fruit Rum is an award-winning single estate rum from the Labourdonnais estate in Mauritius, made from fresh sugarcane juice and real passion fruit grown alongside the cane, and bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV).
Labourdonnais was built in the 1850s and has spent eight generations in the same family. Set on 1,500 acres of sugarcane and tropical fruit plantations in the fertile north of Mauritius, it is a monument to the island's rich history. While much industrial rum is produced in Mauritius, a handful of traditional craft distilleries continue the French tradition of distilling refined rums from pure sugarcane juice, and the Labourdonnais distillery, founded in 2006, is one of them.
Star & Key is made with fresh cane juice to capture the terroir of this paradise in the Indian Ocean. Labourdonnais is one of the few places on the island where sugarcane and passion fruit grow side by side, and the Passion Fruit Rum is made with fresh fruit from the estate, infused into a well-crafted cane juice base rather than built on heavy sweeteners.
The result has subtle fruit and freshness: the grassy brightness of cane juice rum with a ripe, tangy passion fruit layer that brings a tropical twist and some extra layers of flavor to rum cocktails.
Traditionally, in Mauritius, it is enjoyed in a Ti' Punch. It is also a natural in a Mai Tai or a Pornstar Martini, or simply over ice with a squeeze of lime.
