Sukkah Hill Besamim is an aromatic spice liqueur from Los Angeles, made from hand-ground spices with vibrant notes of cinnamon, nutmeg, clove and vanilla, bottled at 74 proof (37% ABV) in a 375ml bottle.
Sukkah Hill Spirits was founded in Los Angeles by Marni and Howard Witkin, who draw on Jewish tradition for their liqueurs. Besamim is the Hebrew word for spices, recalling the fragrant spice box used at the close of the Sabbath.
The liqueur is made from hand-ground spices in small, handcrafted batches, with no preservatives, stabilizers, clarifiers or artificial additives. It is a warm, golden-amber spirit with an intensely aromatic character.
Expect vibrant cinnamon, nutmeg and clove on the nose, a warm, lightly sweet palate of baking spice and vanilla, and a long, fragrant finish.
Besamim is lovely sipped neat or on the rocks after dinner, and it makes a superb base for mixed drinks. Add it to hot apple cider or tea, stir it into an Old Fashioned in place of the sugar, or splash it into eggnog for the holidays. It also brings warm spice to a hot toddy or a whiskey sour. Pair it with apple pie, gingerbread, honey cake or a cheese board. The small bottle and meaningful name make it a thoughtful gift for hosts and holidays. On a cold evening, warm a mug of apple cider with a cinnamon stick and an orange slice, then add a generous splash of Besamim for a fragrant, spiced sipper; in summer, pour it over crushed ice with a twist of lemon and a splash of soda.
