Talisker The Wild Explorador is a cask-strength Isle of Skye single malt from Diageo's Special Releases 2023, matured in first-fill casks and finished in a combination of white, tawny and ruby Port casks. It is bottled at natural cask strength, 59.7% ABV.
Part of the Spirited Xchange series, it is inspired by craft and cultures from around the world, a distillery-first for Talisker. The label art is by Portuguese illustrator Rui Ricardo, whose signature style fuses intricate realism with a nostalgic, retro feel.
On the nose come fruit, sea salt, grape and smoke, with sooty smoke, dried fruit, sultanas, dates and sweet spice. The palate brings dark berries, nutmeg and caramel, with black pepper, gunpowder smoke and cinnamon, and the finish brings more smoke and sea with cinnamon-dusted pastries, jam and fruit loaf.
Presented in its illustrated tube, it is a collectable piece of the Special Releases series.
Add a few drops of water to open the fruit beneath the smoke.
Scotch whisky must be distilled and matured in Scotland for at least three years in oak casks, and any age statement on the label refers to the youngest whisky in the bottle.
