Teeling Blackpitts is a triple-distilled, peated single malt Irish whiskey from the Teeling Whiskey Distillery in Dublin, matured in ex-bourbon and ex-Sauternes casks and bottled at 46% ABV, non-chill filtered.
It is inspired by the historic Blackpitts area of the Liberties in Dublin, just behind the distillery and once home to an abundance of malting houses. Heavily peated malted barley, dried with peat smoke, gives a distinctive smoky profile, while triple distillation reduces some of the medicinal character of a traditional Scottish peated malt and lets a barbecue-smoke character shine. The Sauternes casks were inspired by Teeling's 24 Year Old Single Malt, named World's Best Single Malt in 2019.
The nose brings barbecue smoke, cloves, butterscotch and orange peel. The palate offers applewood smoke, honey, allspice, stewed pears and grilled pineapple, and the finish is salted caramel, wood and savoury smoke.
A unique smoky Irish single malt, it makes a fine gift.
Enjoy it neat or with a drop of water.
Peat is partly decomposed vegetation burned to dry malted barley, and its smoke carries into the whisky; peated Irish whiskey is rare, as most Irish whiskey is unpeated.
Sauternes is a sweet white wine from Bordeaux, and casks that held it lend honeyed, apricot and tropical fruit notes.
Non-chill filtered whiskey keeps the natural oils that chill filtration removes, giving a fuller texture.
Teeling opened the first new distillery in Dublin in over 125 years when it began distilling in 2015.
