Teeling Single Grain is an Irish whiskey from Dublin's Teeling Whiskey Company, made from 95% corn and 5% malted barley, column distilled and fully matured in Californian Cabernet Sauvignon red wine casks, bottled at 92 proof (46% ABV), non-chill filtered.
Teeling Single Grain is one of only a handful of single grain bottlings in the world. Where most Irish blends contain corn, Teeling focused exclusively on grain whiskey, then took the unusual step of maturing it fully in Cabernet Sauvignon wine casks rather than the virgin oak or ex-bourbon casks typical for grain whiskey, letting the cask influence shine through. First released in 2013, it has become a multi-award-winning whiskey.
Intensely fruity and amber, it shows a distinct red grape and berry profile with a hint of spice and an underlying sweetness. The palate is silky smooth with a touch of spice, deep berry notes, creamy sweetness and drying oak tannins.
The classic Teeling phoenix label makes it a handsome gift.
