Telmont Blanc de Noirs 2014 is a vintage Extra Brut Champagne made only from black grapes, about 61% Pinot Noir and 39% Pinot Meunier, by Champagne Telmont of Damery.
It was made without malolactic fermentation and aged for around six years on its lees, then finished with a low dosage of about 3.4 g/L.
The nose shows red berries, kirsch and meringue, with cardamom and vanilla.
On the palate come red fruit, nectarine and peach, with brioche, lemon curd and a creamy texture.
Founded in 1912, Telmont is a family-rooted house in the Marne Valley that farms organically and has set out to reduce its environmental footprint. Its Blanc de Noirs is a powerful, opulent style that shows how much depth Pinot Noir and Meunier bring to Champagne, and the 2014 vintage is now beautifully mature.
Champagne can only come from the Champagne region of north-eastern France, and it gains its bubbles from a second fermentation in the bottle, the traditional method. Non-vintage cuvées are blended from several harvests so that each house can keep its signature style consistent from year to year, and they rest on their lees for at least fifteen months before release.

How to Enjoy It
Serve chilled, around 10 to 12°C, in a white-wine glass. Its Pinot depth makes it a fine partner for roast poultry, pork, salmon, mushroom risotto and aged Comté. Open it with a celebration dinner rather than only as an aperitif. Store the bottle on its side in a cool, dark place, and chill it for a few hours before opening. A bottle of this standing makes a memorable gift for a milestone birthday, an anniversary, a wedding or a promotion.
