Tenjaku Pure Malt is a Japanese whisky distilled in the city of Fuefuki, overlooking Mt. Fuji, made from 100% malted barley and bottled at 43% ABV.
Tenjaku holds that the water, climate and people make Japanese whisky special: if people are its heart, environment is its soul. All the water used in distillation is natural spring water drawn from 250 metres below the surface of the Misaka mountain range, then filtered through volcanic rock for a velvety-smooth texture and moderate mineral content. The whisky is distilled by Kenji Watanabe, who has produced highly rated Japanese whiskies since the late 1990s.
As a pure malt, it contains only malt whiskies and no grain whisky. The name comes from the Japanese characters for the skylark, the herald of spring.
Rich amber in the glass, it is nutty with hints of green apple and fresh herbs, richly rounded with only a slight smokiness, delicate and smooth in the mouth. The aftertaste is refreshing and clear with a long finish, where vanilla gives way to understated woody flavours.
