Tequila Azul Imperial Añejo is a single-estate, additive-free tequila crafted by one family from agave grown on its own fields in Southern Jalisco, aged 18 months in American oak and bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV).
Each batch comes from a single field, emphasizing terroir. The agave is steamed in an autoclave, crushed with a roller mill, fermented for three days and double distilled in copper pots before resting 18 months in American oak barrels.
The aroma brings dried apple, caramel and vanilla. On the palate, cooked agave, caramel, dried apple and spice come through, and the finish lingers with oak, spice and a touch of almond.
The engraved-style label with its crest makes it an elegant gift.
Añejo tequila is aged between one and three years in oak barrels of no more than 600 litres, long enough to add colour, sweetness and spice while keeping the character of the agave, which makes it a natural sipping tequila.
Tequila can only be made from blue Weber agave in five designated Mexican states, chiefly Jalisco, and the finest bottlings are made from 100% agave. Sipping tequila is best enjoyed from a narrow-rimmed glass that concentrates the aromas, at room temperature and without salt or lime, so the character of the agave and the barrel can come through.
Single-estate tequilas let the character of one plot of land shine through.
