Tequila Scenario Añejo is a deep golden añejo tequila matured for 12 to 18 months in Jack Daniel's whiskey barrels, bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV).
Scenario comes from Auténtica Tequilera in the Tequila region of Jalisco and is produced at NOM 1502 using traditional methods rooted in the Jalisco highlands. The extended ageing in former Jack Daniel's casks layers whiskey-influenced sweetness and oak depth onto the natural agave character, resulting in a tequila that is complex yet beautifully approachable.
Very aromatic, it opens with agave and honey, giving way to warm oak, soft maple syrup, vanilla and toffee, with touches of dulce de leche, cherry, a whisper of prune, light coffee and floral notes. The palate is full-bodied and balanced, with a dominant, unctuous texture, predominant fruitiness and gentle sweetness alongside smoky and woody notes that develop with each sip. The finish is long-lasting, sweet, smooth and woody.
Its dark bottle with the striking horse label makes it a handsome gift.
Añejo tequila is aged between one and three years in oak barrels of no more than 600 litres, long enough to add colour, sweetness and spice while keeping the character of the agave, which makes it a natural sipping tequila.
Tequila can only be made from blue Weber agave in five designated Mexican states, chiefly Jalisco, and the finest bottlings are made from 100% agave. Sipping tequila is best enjoyed from a narrow-rimmed glass that concentrates the aromas, at room temperature and without salt or lime, so the character of the agave and the barrel can come through.
