The Bad Stuff Reserva Especial Extra Añejo is a single-estate tequila made from 100% Tequilana Weber agave in Los Altos, Jalisco, double distilled in a copper pot still and rested for at least three years in new French oak barrels. It is bottled at 40% ABV.
The Bad Stuff draws its agave from a single estate in the Highlands of Jalisco. Resting the tequila in new French oak for at least three years develops its signature complexity, and the brand's extra añejo has collected awards for it.
The tall, square bottle with its black and gold label and Reserva Especial seal comes in a black presentation box, making it a polished gift.
Its smooth, approachable style makes it a good choice for sharing with guests who are new to sipping tequila.
Sip it neat from a snifter, or over a single large ice cube.
Extra añejo is the most mature category of tequila, created in 2006 for tequilas aged more than three years in oak barrels of no more than 600 litres. The long rest softens the agave's natural pepper and brings out caramel, vanilla and dried fruit, which is why extra añejos are usually enjoyed neat, like a fine cognac or whisky.
Tequila can only be made from blue Weber agave in five designated Mexican states, chiefly Jalisco, and the finest bottlings are made from 100% agave. Sipping tequila is best enjoyed from a narrow-rimmed glass that concentrates the aromas, at room temperature and without salt or lime, so the character of the agave and the barrel can come through.
