The Block Distilling Co., in the River North Arts District of Denver, Colorado, makes seasonal gins, whiskies, vodka and other spirits with the intention of bringing people together, doing things the long way by blending culinary and chemistry methods. When it set out to make gin, it found too many great botanicals, citrus and spices to stop at one, so it made four, each The Block's expression of a season. Each starts with The Block Vodka as its base, with the botanicals macerated at room temperature to extract only the best of their flavors.
The Summer Gin is meant to take you right to a warm beach, with a lounge chair and a drink with a little umbrella, or floating in a kiddie pool with your pals, sipping gin on the hottest day of the year. It is flooded with citrus: lemon, lime, grapefruit, pomelo, yuzu and orange.
Bold, refreshing and bright, it comes across beautifully sweet up front and finishes nice and crisp. The 47% ABV keeps the citrus vivid when it meets tonic or vermouth.
It is a dry Martini drinker's perfect companion, and just as at home in a Gin & Tonic with a wedge of grapefruit, a Tom Collins or a French 75.
