The Night Sweats is a Bottled in Bond straight bourbon from The Block Distilling Co., aged a minimum of four years, which makes it the oldest whiskey The Block has ever released, and bottled at 100 proof (50% ABV).
The bourbon is made from yellow, blue and red corn, millet and malted barley. Seventy percent of the grain comes from The Block's dedicated acreage on a Missouri family farm, where the distillery is directly involved in the farming practices, the grain varietals and the storage techniques. The whiskey is open-top fermented and double distilled.
It matures in barrels made from staves air-seasoned for 36 months, which contribute complex sweetness far beyond the commonplace vanilla, reaching into dark honey and caramel.
The corn adds an expected sweetness, with peppery complexity from the red corn and sweet tortilla notes from the blue corn, balanced by the sweetness of the malted barley. At 100 proof it can be sipped neat or take an ice cube without becoming watered down.
Enjoy it neat or over a single cube.
Bourbon must be made in the United States from a mash of at least 51% corn and aged in new charred oak containers, and straight bourbon must be aged at least two years. Those rules give bourbon its characteristic sweetness, with caramel and vanilla drawn from the charred barrels.
