The GlenAllachie 13 Year Old Madeira Wood Finish is a Speyside single malt finished in casks that held Malvasia Madeira, bottled at cask strength, 54.3% ABV, without chill filtration or added colour. This cask-strength edition was released as an ImpEx exclusive.
GlenAllachie, near Aberlour in Speyside, was revived in 2017 by master distiller Billy Walker, renowned for his skill with cask finishes. Malvasia, the richest and sweetest style of Madeira, adds tropical fruit and dessert-like depth to the distillery's robust spirit, and the Wood Finish range has become one of its most celebrated series.
Expect dried fig, raisin, toffee and dark chocolate, with apricot, plantain, almond, pineapple and salted caramel, and the Madeira's sweetness balanced by the strength of the spirit.
Presented in GlenAllachie's dark green gift box, it is a superb gift for lovers of wine-finished malts.
Add a few drops of water to open the fruit.
Scotch whisky must be distilled and matured in Scotland for at least three years in oak casks, and any age statement on the label refers to the youngest whisky in the bottle.
Madeira is a fortified wine from the Portuguese island of the same name, aged in warm conditions that give it rich, caramelised and nutty flavours. Cask strength bottlings like this one are presented exactly as they left the cask, so you can add water to taste and watch the whisky change as it opens.
