The Glenturret 7 Year Old Peat Smoked is the 2023 core release of the peated single malt from Scotland's oldest working distillery, in Crieff, Perthshire, bottled at 46% ABV.
The Glenturret has made whisky since 1763 and, under Lalique Group ownership since 2019, has expanded its range with peat-smoked expressions alongside its traditional unpeated style. Inspired by the distillery's landscape, this 7 year old is matured in American oak, European oak and refill casks: American oak brings creamy vanilla and citrus, European oak adds depth and sweetness, and refill casks let the peated new make shine.
The characteristic sweetness of the new make spirit intermingles with fresh oak and sweet vanilla, and smoke lingers softly through a long, satisfying finish. Light smoke floats with vanilla and sweet aromatics, and citrus, fresh green oak and sultanas accompany a meandering peat smoke.
A young, elegant peated Highland malt, it makes a fine gift.
Enjoy it neat or with a drop of water.
Scotch whisky must be distilled and matured in Scotland for at least three years in oak casks, and any age statement on the label refers to the youngest whisky in the bottle.
Peat is partly decomposed vegetation burned to dry malted barley; its smoke soaks into the grain and carries through into the whisky as earthy, smoky notes.
Refill casks have already been used at least once for whisky, so they give a gentler wood influence that lets the character of the spirit come through.
Bottled at 46% ABV, it keeps more texture and flavour than a standard 40% whisky.
