This ImpEx Collection Penderyn is a single cask Welsh single malt, distilled on 2 February 2017 and bottled on 15 March 2022 after five years in cask 138, a Blandy's Malvasia Madeira wine cask. It is bottled at cask strength, 57.4% ABV, with around 480 bottles released.
Penderyn, in the Brecon Beacons, is Wales' best-known distillery, famous for its Faraday single-pot still and its use of Madeira casks. ImpEx Beverages selects exceptional single casks for its ImpEx Collection, and this one won wide praise: Whisky Advocate scored it 93, calling it a rather spectacular whisky, and Drinkhacker named it its favourite of the series' second edition.
Malvasia, the richest and sweetest style of Madeira, brings dried fruit, toffee and nutty depth to Penderyn's light, fruity spirit, magnified at full cask strength.

Penderyn's Faraday still, designed for the distillery, produces a light, clean and fruity spirit at very high strength, a perfect canvas for wine casks. Madeira is a fortified wine from the Portuguese island of the same name, aged in warm conditions that give it rich, caramelised and nutty flavours, and casks that held it are prized by whisky makers.
Single casks like this one are bottled without blending, so each has its own personality, and at full cask strength you can add water to find your preferred balance.
