The Lost Explorer Reposado is an additive-free, small-batch reposado made from 100% Blue Weber agave and bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV). Launched in late 2024, it is the first aged expression from the award-winning brand.
It is crafted by legendary maestro tequilero Enrique de Colsa, formerly of Don Julio, and builds on The Lost Explorer's mineral, herbaceous blanco style. What sets it apart is a triple-cask ageing process using three distinct barrel types: Sauternes wine casks bring soft fruit and honeyed richness, Pedro Ximénez sherry casks add raisin and dried fruit sweetness, and bourbon barrels contribute oak, vanilla and warm spice.
Together the casks create a balanced, layered, agave-forward tequila, with cooked agave at the centre and added layers of wood, vanilla, dried fruit, a touch of smoke and nuttiness, highlighting the natural sweetness of highland agave.
The Lost Explorer was first known for its mezcal, and its elegant bottle makes this reposado a handsome gift.
Reposado, meaning rested, is tequila aged between two months and a year in oak, which gives it a pale gold colour and a gentle touch of wood while keeping the agave bright and lively.
Tequila can only be made from blue Weber agave in five designated Mexican states, chiefly Jalisco, and the finest bottlings are made from 100% agave. Sipping tequila is best enjoyed from a narrow-rimmed glass that concentrates the aromas, at room temperature and without salt or lime, so the character of the agave and the barrel can come through.
