Oran Blend No. 1 is a limited blended Scotch whisky from The Perfect Fifth, the American independent bottler, created by whisky writer Jim Murray, author of Jim Murray's Whisky Bible. It is half single malt and half single grain, bottled at 50% ABV, and limited to just 465 bottles.
Oran was launched in November 2023 as two companion blends built from eleven casks, some of them split between the two in different ratios. Blend No. 1 composed exclusively of ex-bourbon casks. Blend No. 1 combines nine whiskies aged from 12 to 34 years. Components across the pair include a 21-year-old and a 34-year-old single grain, an 18-year-old Pulteney and a 12-year-old Ardmore.
Whisky Advocate scored Blend No. 1 92 points. Pairing long-aged single grain with single malt in equal measure gives the blend both softness and character.
The bottle carries Oran's elegant label with a coloured band marking the blend number, and comes in a teal presentation box. It is a collectable for followers of The Perfect Fifth and a fine gift for a Scotch lover.
With so few bottles made, it is a rare chance to taste a blend crafted by one of whisky's best-known writers.
Scotch whisky must be distilled and matured in Scotland for at least three years in oak casks, and any age statement on the label refers to the youngest whisky in the bottle.
