The Producer Espadín is an artisanal joven mezcal from Ejutla La Noria, Oaxaca, made by Maestro Juan Pacheco Santos from 100% Espadín and bottled at 88 proof (44% ABV) in a 1-liter bottle.
The Producer was born from a search for maestro mezcaleros who share a passion for being the best at what they do, and the name is meant to resonate with quality. Everything happens in Ejutla La Noria, where the agave is grown, harvested, crushed, fermented and distilled: the piñas roast 60 hours in a traditional earthen oven fired with huamúchil wood, rest an hour, and are crushed by a bull-pulled stone wheel. Fermentation runs 8 to 10 days in wooden cypress tanks before distillation in a copper pot still with a refrescador, in batches of about 5,000 liters (NOM 0685X).
A mezcal made for cocktails, it is mineral and bright: citrus lifts the nose with vegetal notes and gentle smoke, and the palate is earthy and dry with green, vegetal, spice and mineral notes.
The coral label makes it a great gift for mezcal-cocktail fans.
Mezcal is made by roasting agave hearts, traditionally in earthen pits, then crushing, fermenting and distilling them, a process that gives the spirit its characteristic smoky depth. Each agave variety and each village brings its own character, which is why enthusiasts love exploring small-batch bottlings.
