The Yamazaki Story of the Distillery 2025 Edition is a limited release single malt from Suntory's Yamazaki distillery, a vatting of malt whiskies that showcases Japanese Mizunara oak and Spanish oak sherry casks. It is bottled at 43% ABV.
Yamazaki, founded by Shinjiro Torii in 1923 on the outskirts of Kyoto, is Japan's first malt whisky distillery, and the Story of the Distillery series celebrates more than a century of its craft. The 2025 edition, released in May 2025, is the second installment in the series.
Reddish amber in colour, it opens with richly sweet dried persimmon accented by clove. The palate brings orange marmalade with an adzuki-like sweetness, and the finish is complex and long, smoky and spicy.
The bottle comes in a box illustrated with the distillery, making it a fine gift and a collectable for lovers of Japanese whisky.
Enjoy it neat or with a little chilled water, in the Japanese mizuwari style, to open its layers of fruit and spice.
Japanese whisky has earned a worldwide reputation for balance and precision, and limited releases from its historic distilleries are among the most sought-after bottles for collectors.
