Three Chord Amplify Rye is a small-batch blend of young Kentucky rye and older Indiana rye from a 95% rye mash bill, re-barreled and bottled at 95 proof (47.5% ABV).
Three Chord was co-founded by Grammy-winning guitarist, composer and producer Neil Giraldo, who has shaped the sound of rock for over 40 years and creatively directs the brand. Its multi-step blending process, called the Perfectly Tuned Taste, puts blending at center stage. Amplify combines the grain-forward, almost grassy character of young Kentucky rye with the more refined, deeper flavors of older Indiana rye; the two whiskeys are blended in a large tank before re-barreling for two to six months. Made from 95% rye and 5% malted barley, it is drier and spicier than most whiskeys and has earned a 93-point rating.
Clear and rich with a chestnut color, it opens with floral and citrus notes and hints of black cherry and rye. The palate is chewy and complex, with an unexpected sweetness up front balanced by rye spice at the back: bold citrus peel, black pepper and mild clove with black cherry. The finish is silky, with herbaceous mint.
The guitar-pick emblem makes it a great gift for music and whiskey fans.
American rye whiskey is made from a mash of at least 51% rye and aged in new charred oak, giving it a spicier, drier character than bourbon, with notes of pepper, herbs and baking spice.
Blending young and older ryes balances grassy spice with depth.
A splash of water brings out the black cherry.
