Three Chord Honey Toast is a limited-edition blend of 5- and 6-year-old MGP bourbons and an 8-year-old Kentucky corn whiskey, finished in toasted barrels and then in barrels that held honey. It is bottled at 111.3 proof (55.65% ABV).
The three whiskeys were blended and aged for three months in toasted barrels from Independent Stave Company and Speyside Cooperage, followed by one month in barrels that had held honey from Fern Valley Farms in Arkansas. The bourbons bring two mash bills, one of 60% corn, 36% rye and 4% malted barley and one of 75% corn, 21% rye and 4% malted barley, while the corn whiskey adds a soft, sweet base.
This blend of three whiskeys and two finishes is bold yet balanced, with toasted oak and baking spice from the barrels and a sweet honey finish.
Three Chord's guitar-pick emblem sits on the label, and this limited release makes a fun gift for music-loving whiskey fans.
American whiskey covers a wide range of styles, from bourbon and rye to single malts and light whiskeys, and independent blenders and small producers have made it one of the most exciting categories in spirits.
Toasted barrels are heated more gently than charred ones, caramelizing the wood's sugars to add vanilla, toffee and baking spice.
Corn whiskey adds a soft, sweet body to a blend, while the rye in the bourbons brings spice and structure.
At over 111 proof, a few drops of water open the honey and oak.
