Three Chord RIOT is the first-ever Double Bonded Rye: a blend of two Bottled-in-Bond rye whiskeys, one from MGP in Indiana and one from Bardstown Bourbon Company in Kentucky, aged four to seven years and bottled at 100 proof (50% ABV).
Three Chord was founded in 2017 by legendary musician and producer Neil Giraldo, who set out to translate his gift for making hit records into making hit whiskey, with whiskey maker Ari Sussman in the control room. The brand draws deep inspiration from the rhythms, stories and soul of music culture, and every bottle spins a record.
Bottled-in-Bond whiskey must come from a single distillery, be aged at least four years and be bottled at 100 proof. RIOT breaks the rules by blending two bonded ryes from different distilleries, a combination Three Chord worked to get approved. The mash bill is 86% rye, 9% corn and 5% malted barley, and RIOT is a Gold Medal winner at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
The nose is sweet and inviting with mint leaf, cinnamon sugar, coffee cake, baking spices and creamy caramel. The palate has a creamy, oily texture, with vanilla bean, caramel sauce, bold rye spice, white peppercorn and toasted oak, and the spice crescendos into a finish that pulls mint and oak back in before fading to lingering rye spice.
The hot pink label, unique in a sea of green rye labels, features The Darts, an all-female garage-punk band. Loud and unapologetic, it is made for a Sazerac or a Manhattan, or a slow neat pour.
