Two Stacks Double Barrel Single Grain is an Irish single grain whiskey from independent bonders and blenders Two Stacks, distilled and aged at the Great Northern Distillery in Dundalk, matured in ex-bourbon and sherry casks, and bottled at 86 proof (43% ABV).
Two Stacks is reviving the traditional Irish trade of whiskey bonding. Before the 1930s Ireland had hundreds of bonders; today Two Stacks is one of only three recognized whiskey bonders in the country, always hunting for traditional Irish whiskeys that offer something beyond the ordinary.
This was the brand's first release in the Irish grain whiskey category. Co-founder Liam Brogan has said many in Ireland thought they were mad to bring out a grain whiskey, but grain, long used mainly as a blending component, is quickly gaining fans of its own. The blending and double barrel aging let this whiskey step into the spotlight with real character and value.
Like the rest of the Double Barrel core range, it is matured in one style of cask and then in a second. Because grain whiskey carries a naturally lighter profile, the twin influence of sweet American oak from the bourbon casks and fruity Spanish sherry wood drives the flavor, with a silky-smooth texture. It is soft and delicate, ideal for those who enjoy a sweeter palate.
Approachable and versatile, it suits newcomers to whiskey, fans of lighter styles, bourbon drinkers and anyone exploring alternative Irish whiskey styles: a good all-rounder neat, on ice or in a highball.
