Thunderstruck is a 7 year old single malt Scotch whisky distilled at Auchroisk in Speyside and released by the independent bottler Uncharted Whisky Co. through The Whiskey Lab, bottled at cask strength of 59.1% ABV.
Named as a tribute to AC/DC's rock anthem, it was distilled in May 2017 and bottled in September 2024, yielding just 720 bottles worldwide.
It is an intensely rich, cask-strength sherry bomb, and one of the darkest cask samples the bottlers have ever drawn. It is presented in its completely natural deep mahogany colour and without chill filtration.
With only 720 bottles, it is a loud, collectible gift for sherried-whisky fans.
Sip it neat, then add a few drops of water.
Scotch whisky must be distilled and matured in Scotland for at least three years in oak casks, and any age statement on the label refers to the youngest whisky in the bottle.
Independent bottlers buy individual casks from distilleries and bottle them under their own label, often at full cask strength and without colouring or chill filtration. Auchroisk's spirit is usually reserved for blends, so single cask releases like this are a rare chance to taste it on its own.
A sherry bomb is a whisky whose character is dominated by a very active sherry cask, bringing deep colour and flavours of dried fruit, raisin, dark chocolate and spice. A drop of water helps open those layers at cask strength.
