It honours Nearest Green, the pioneering master distiller who helped define Tennessee whiskey through charcoal mellowing. The whiskey is maple charcoal filtered and aged in barrels with a toasting process for enhanced depth, and each single barrel brings its own complexity.
It offers rich caramel, vanilla, toasted oak, dark cherry and baking spice, with a palate of brown sugar, roasted nuts and maple, and a long finish of spice and leather.

Tennessee whiskey is made much like bourbon, from a mash of at least 51% corn aged in new charred oak, but it is also filtered through sugar maple charcoal before aging, a step known as the Lincoln County Process that gives a softer, rounder spirit.
Nearest Green, a formerly enslaved man, taught a young Jack Daniel to make whiskey, and the Uncle Nearest brand was founded to bring his story and contribution to light.
Toasting a barrel, rather than only charring it, caramelises more of the wood sugars deeper in the staves, adding layers of caramel, vanilla and baking spice. At barrel strength, a little water helps those notes come forward.
