Wemyss Malts Spice King is a small-batch, non-chill filtered blended malt Scotch whisky, bottled at 92 proof (46% ABV) in a 700ml bottle.
Spice King is one of three core blended malts from Wemyss Malts, alongside Peat Chimney and The Hive, each named for its flavour profile. Launched in 2005, this Highland-style blended malt is all about warming, spicy flavours, drawn from up to sixteen different single malts with a large proportion of Island malts. When aged stocks became hard to source, the original 8-year-old was replaced by this no-age-statement version at 46%. Wemyss, pronounced "Weems", focuses not on the distilleries behind its whiskies but on the natural tastes and aromas created through careful selection and blending.
It is intriguing and beautifully complex, with spice and subtle smoke, maritime and citrus notes. The nose is rich with spiced orange and lively blossom, and the palate brings deep ginger syrup with a blast of salty sea spray and pepper. Toasted oat and ginger biscuits, walnut and crystallised fruit mingle with fine leather and damp heather, and a toasted warmth lingers with tingling cracked pepper on the finish.

Scotch whisky must be distilled and matured in Scotland for at least three years in oak casks, and any age statement on the label refers to the youngest whisky in the bottle.
