Whiskey Del Bac Frontera is an annual limited release of Del Bac Classic American single malt, aged in new American white oak and then finished for an additional 13 months in Pedro Ximénez sherry botas, bottled at 97 proof (48.5% ABV).
Del Bac is made by Hamilton Distillers in Tucson, Arizona. Frontera is named after the medieval city of Jerez de la Frontera, which sits on what was once the edge of Spain and is known as the world capital of sherry wine. Only a limited number of bottles are released nationwide.
The nose shows raisin, walnut and crushed red grape skin. The palate brings heavy vanilla and stone fruits, followed by bright acidity, finishing with lingering honey, oak and leather.
A Southwestern single malt with a Spanish soul, it makes a distinctive gift.
Enjoy it over one large ice cube, the recommended serve, or neat.
American whiskey covers a wide range of styles, from bourbon and rye to single malts and light whiskeys, and independent blenders and small producers have made it one of the most exciting categories in spirits.
American single malt is made from 100% malted barley at a single distillery in the United States and matured in oak, a category that has grown quickly as craft distillers explore their own regional character.
Pedro Ximénez is the richest, sweetest style of sherry, made from sun-dried grapes in Andalusia; casks that held it pass on raisin, fig and dark sugar notes to the whisky they finish.
A bota is the traditional Spanish name for a sherry cask, the same casks prized by whisky makers around the world for finishing.
