Whiskey JYPSI Legacy Batch 001, The Journey, is the first release from Whiskey JYPSI, the whiskey brand founded by country music star Eric Church. It is a cross-category blend bottled at 115 proof.
Rather than blending grains before fermentation, JYPSI rebuilds a traditional mash bill by blending well-aged finished whiskeys from different origins: 70% seven- and eight-year-old Indiana bourbon, 21% twenty-year-old Canadian rye and 9% four-year-old American single malt. The approach lets the blenders draw on a wider world of whiskeys to create something new.
The nose is fruity and floral, with baking spices, lemon zest, stone fruit, honey-glazed walnuts and buttered corn. On the palate come maple, warm spices and toffee, with a faint trace of red liquorice on the finish. Drinkhacker scored it 95 and The Whiskey Wash 92.
