The Vaults is Widow Jane's annual exploration of wood finishes on well-aged whiskey. For 2024, each barrel was painstakingly selected for depth of flavour and to match the complexity of Amburana, the so-called Brazilian oak that grows slowly in the dry jungles of Brazil and Argentina. Poor soil and irregular rainfall make the wood scarce, and it is renowned for an unexpected combination of warm spices, floral and tropical notes, especially a strong cinnamon character.
The result is a bourbon of unusual complexity. On the nose come amaretto cookie, fig leaf and cherry blossom, with caramel, wild berries and baking spice. The palate brings rosemary, cinnamon raisin and green tea, with hints of olive oil and roasted yam, leading to an exceptionally long finish.
