Wild Turkey 101 is a high-rye Kentucky straight bourbon aged six to eight years in American white oak barrels with the deepest alligator char, bottled at 101 proof (50.5% ABV).
A time-honored icon, Wild Turkey 101 has been made one way, the right way, for decades. For more than 60 years, legendary Master Distiller Jimmy Russell crafted it, embracing the pre-Prohibition style he learned from his mentor and predecessor, Bill Hughes, and famously not changing a thing. It has long been Jimmy's favorite.
Its high rye content and 101 proof make it a most flavorful Kentucky straight bourbon with an impossible-to-miss character and a pleasant bite. The whiskey is aged longer, six to eight years, in American white oak barrels coated in the deepest alligator char, which gives it more character and depth.
Vanilla with cinnamon and oak lead the aroma. The taste brings a hint of sweetness up front with vanilla and caramel, then oak and baking spices in the middle, and the finish is bold, with Wild Turkey's signature spice and orange peel.
Highly enjoyable neat, on the rocks or in a cocktail, it is a classic for an Old Fashioned, a Manhattan or a Boulevardier, where its proof carries through.
Bourbon must be made in the United States from a mash of at least 51% corn and aged in new charred oak containers, and straight bourbon must be aged at least two years. Those rules give bourbon its characteristic sweetness, with caramel and vanilla drawn from the charred barrels.
