Woody Creek Colorado High Rye 70/30 is a grain-to-glass bourbon made from 100% Colorado grain, 70% #2 dent corn and 30% Elbon rye, and bottled at 94 proof (47% ABV).
Woody Creek mashes its Colorado-grown corn and rye with Rocky Mountain water and distills start to finish on its custom CARL stills, with no sourcing and no outsourcing; everything is distilled, aged and bottled on site in Basalt, in the high-altitude Roaring Fork Valley. The bourbon is aged five to seven years in new American oak and barreled at a higher proof to hold on to more character through every season.
Baking spices, fruit and grass hit up front and mingle with sweet caramel and a touch of oak; the sweetness of Colorado corn shows at first sip and persists on the back end against the prominent rye spice.
The tall copper-toned bottle makes it a fine gift for Colorado whiskey fans.
Bourbon must be made in the United States from a mash of at least 51% corn and aged in new charred oak containers, and straight bourbon must be aged at least two years. Those rules give bourbon its characteristic sweetness, with caramel and vanilla drawn from the charred barrels.
