Wyatt Earp 13 Year Old American Whiskey Hazmat Edition is a limited, cask-strength release from World Whiskey Society, bottled at a blistering 160 proof. Matured for 13 years, it is made from a mash of 73% malted barley, 14.9% malted rye and 12.1% malted wheat, with no corn.
Whiskeys bottled at 140 proof and above are known as hazmat whiskeys because their strength exceeds commercial airline carry limits. This is the first high-proof release in the Wyatt Earp series and the highest-proof bottling in it, following earlier releases between 96 and 135 proof. The series is named after the legendary Wild West lawman.
Despite its staggering proof, thirteen years of ageing and the all-malted grain bill give a deep, complex profile rather than raw heat. Dark raisins, ripe berries, oak and vanilla custard come through on the nose and palate, with a finish of charred smoke and dark fruit.
The frontier-style bottle is topped with a distinctive six-shooter cylinder stopper with silver bullets and carries an engraved Wild West label. It is a collector's piece for lovers of extreme-proof whiskey.
This is a whiskey to approach with respect and plenty of water, and a remarkable bottle to share with experienced drinkers.

At 160 proof, pour a very small measure and add water generously, tasting as you go; it opens dramatically when diluted. A large ice cube helps too. Pair it with dark chocolate or a full-bodied cigar.
