Wyoming Whiskey Small Batch is a wheated bourbon distilled, aged and bottled entirely in Kirby, Wyoming, from a mash of 68% corn, 20% wheat and 12% malted barley, bottled at 88 proof (44% ABV).
A traditional bourbon from an untraditional place, Small Batch is Wyoming Whiskey's original, flagship and defining product. In the town of Kirby, population 92, fifth-generation rancher Brad Mead developed the recipe with Bourbon Hall of Fame member Steve Nally, who spent more than 30 years at Maker's Mark. The corn, wheat and barley are all grown within 100 miles of the distillery, and the whiskey matures for around five years in the rugged climate of the Big Horn Basin.
Dark amber, it opens with floral notes, a hint of vanilla bean and caramel pudding. The palate is floral with brown baking spices and browned butter, vanilla crème, caramel and a hint of cinnamon, and the mouthfeel is light and smooth with a hint of mint before a medium-length finish.
The classic cream label with its WW brand makes it a great gift.
Bourbon must be made in the United States from a mash of at least 51% corn and aged in new charred oak containers, and straight bourbon must be aged at least two years. Those rules give bourbon its characteristic sweetness, with caramel and vanilla drawn from the charred barrels.
