Zumbador Reposado is an additive-free, 100% blue Weber agave tequila from the Highlands of Jalisco, rested about six months in American oak and bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV).
Zumbador is Spanish for hummingbird, a nod to the bird drawn to the agave bloom, and the tequila buzzes with character to match. It is distilled at Destilería El Sabino (NOM 1643) in the Altos de Jalisco by the López family, crafted by fourth-generation Master Tequilero Roberto López Anaya on the El Sabino estate, using the same agave base as Zumbador Blanco.
Crafted using traditional methods that honor the agave from field to bottle, the tequila rests in American oak barrels after distillation, including barrels that once held Tennessee whiskey. The time in oak lets the raw, vegetal brightness of the Highland agave mellow into smooth, layered complexity while preserving its vibrant character.
Expect cooked agave, citrus and minerals with a little smoke, caramel and vanilla on the nose. The palate follows with black pepper throughout, soft vanilla and toasted caramel rounding out the agave's natural brightness, and a silky mouthfeel leading to a lingering finish of citrus, vanilla and pepper.
Smooth enough to savor neat after dinner and versatile enough for a Paloma, it truly shines in a Tequila Old Fashioned, where its oak and vanilla play beautifully with agave syrup and aromatic bitters.
Reposado, meaning rested, is tequila aged between two months and a year in oak, which gives it a pale gold colour and a gentle touch of wood while keeping the agave bright and lively.
