The GlenDronach 18 Year Old Allardice is a richly sherried Highland single malt matured in Spanish Oloroso sherry casks and bottled at 46% ABV with natural colour. It is named after James Allardice, who founded the distillery in 1826.
GlenDronach is one of Scotland's great sherry cask distilleries, and Allardice shows that style at its most indulgent. Eighteen years in Oloroso casks give it a bright, deep gold colour with a tawny centre and a remarkable richness. Because it is bottled with natural colour, that deep hue in the glass comes entirely from the sherry casks.
On the nose come fudge and muscovado sugar, with fruit compote and Morello cherries adding depth. The palate brings stewed fruit and allspice with Oloroso sherry, toasted walnut bread and chocolate, and the finish is very complex and long, full and firm, with a slightly nutty edge.
Presented in a deep blue box, it is a classic gift for a sherry cask lover, an 18th birthday or a milestone anniversary, and a cornerstone of any Highland collection. It rewards slow sipping, with new layers of fruit and spice appearing as it sits in the glass.
